The Movie box set does sound better than the SYF mix . Has anyone heard the reissued version, they didn't include that in the Boxes of all the albums , but I guess they did redo it from the original c.d. release .
I know Bear, and Phil, had a rough time , because the tapes were messed up . But then why does the movie box sound better , modern remastering beyond what they had in 76?
In a time when we didn't have tapes, It was good to get some of the 1st set sort of songs on record . Most of those I thought were ok to great .
I do wished they could have used the "Eyes", on say side 3 . Playing they put on Skull and Roses, so they would not have considered it at that time .

Something I have always wondered about too, Dudley.

Forget about the movie box set that came out more recently. How were they able to get a good soundtrack for the movie in it's original form in 1977, if the tracks for the album were that bad?? Didn't they all come from the same source?

Have to say that SYF is not something I have listened to in a long long time. Of course, why would I with a whole archive full of other gems to listen to?

In responding to imissJG's surprise that I was/am not big fan of "Without A Net", I neglected to say a lot of it has to do when it came out . With whole shows, then available for trading, and now a click or two away , plus the release of whole shows, or big chunks of them, with the vaults, DP's, and now RT's in great sound , it make the old anthology live sets a little less compelling .
I still like those Winterland shows, though the pre Europe tour stuff is better for that year . I kind of hoped that they would have reissued SYF with some more of the material they didn't include in the Movie box . I recall Dave Lemieux saying they had more filmed stuff , so maybe another DVD .
But the mystery remains, why was it such a bitch to get what they did, and the movie, and the latter box, sound so much better ?

I'll catch it for this but I'm not sure that the movie ever sounded that good. The DVD release has the option of watching it with the original mix, or with the new souped-up remastered soundtrack, and to me there is no comparison between the two. The original mix just doesn't cut it.
